So this is the story of an adventure. It needs multiple pictures. We got up at 5 am on Saturday and picked up our friend Katelin at 6 and headed off to Asheville. Think of it as a pilgrimage to J.Crew mecca. It was the warehouse sale, the best kept secret in the world of sales. The sale started at 10, so we got in line at 7:30 and were probably ~100th in line. Here are my cohorts, holding down our spot on the curb.

And here's the line in front of us. It was like we've found our people.

So. Before I show you a picture of the inside, let me explain. Every month or two, J.Crew sells off all of their sample clothes. Some of them have random hole in them, but most of them are great clothes in great condition. In rows of boxes. Priced ~80% off. We paid $15 for skirts and pants and shorts and $10 for tops. It was pretty awesome. So here's the thing. Fire code means they can only let so many people in. You get a price list and a garbage bag. Then you shop. It's like a really strange scavenger hunt. The first few minutes were a bit disconcerting. But once you get the hang of it, you get a system and you stuff things into your bag and move on. From the picture at the top, you may have noticed that we wore leggings. It's because you have to try things on in the middle of the warehouse. You discard what you don't want and steal everyone's discarded stuff if you see something good. I got 2 dresses, 2 skirts, a pair of shorts, 3 pairs of pants, a top, a few sweaters, and a whole bundle of bathing suits. Bathing suits were the major victory: they were $2 for the tops and $2 for the bottoms. Even the ladies checking us out were stunned by how many matching suits I had managed to find, since you have to dig through the boxes to find matches. I found 6. Go Laura. And trust me, this is going to be a repeat trip, perhaps this fall, to look for coats or sweaters. And here's a picture of the madness inside. What you can't see are the clusters of people trying on clothes together.

Bowman Field. Oh the weather was beautiful. So Mo and I had some ice cream and lazed around in the sun. I could do that more often.

So this is what happens when I drive to Creekwood and find out that Ozaria isn't there. I have to admit that I'm a bit more frustrated than usual today. I won't rant or gripe. I'm just annoyed because I've been going there every Wednesday afternoon for 2 years. So instead I'm watching tv and blogging, because the other option is the pile behind me. Perhaps I should introduce you guys to the OTHER pile soon. It's the result of a realization that I need to be done moving this weekend. Done AFTER my adventure with Amy. More to come about that.

A lot of my favorite blogs celebrate something called "Tuesday Shoesday". So it was a delightful surprise to find that Courtney had gotten in the blue polka-dot Kate Spade shoes that we've been  drooling over and had brought them to work today, Tuesday! How seriously adorable are those shoes!?!?

We got into a discussion about honey today and its benefits for your allergies. If you eat local honey, it gets the allergens in your system and builds up a type of immunity. So I have CLEMSON honey on my desk to put in my tea. It's delicious.

Can I share the pile with you? To get it all in, I had to walk into the living room for this picture. All of that stuff against the wall is the massive pile of presents we've been given. Can I just say how overwhelming it is to view things from this perspective? Everyone's been so generous.

Despite the fact that the wedding is a week and a half away, I still will be getting Brides' magazine until like October, because of a free one-year subscription. I need to find someone to pass them off on. On the bright side, I was delighted to see that I'm ahead of them on the ideas side of things.

So this is what I did last Friday. The blue box on the right is the tabletop SEM: the Hitachi TM 3000. It's kinda crazy what that little thing can do.

So all that paper on the right came out of the little box on the left, which was already holding a decently sized trifle bowl. Way to be green, Pampered Chef. But, on the bright side, I got my trifle bowl!

I had a hair trial for the wedding after lunch with the girls, and this is all you get to see.

Julie and Tegan and I had lunch at Salsaritas!

I don't usually celebrate Valentine's day. In fact, this year, I canceled it (with a witness present) since Chris and I have a million things going on. Instead, we hung out in honor of Monday. We had dinner, practiced our dancing in the kitchen, then played an epic game of Scrabble.

On Tuesday, at work, we celebrated the end of the holiday with a refreshed candy jar, including these heart-shaped pink-filled York patties. Awesome sauce.

Friday. We applied for our marriage license! Gotta make it bona-fide. Also, in a fit of irony, the mental health window, seen behind Chris, is in the same spot. Hence his face. I'd just finished learning all the ways to have someone committed.

Thursday. So I blew out my cowboy boot, rather dramatically. Also, we got our furniture, which is what's in the background. But, more importantly, my cowboy boot is dead.

If there's one thing they don't tell you, it's that weddings require a lot of stamps. A LOT.

I was cold and got to give my new Smartwools a try. Nice and cozy. And with fun stripes!

February 6, 2011

We had a shower on the 6th. I don't have a picture yet, but I'll add one eventually. We had a lovely time and Chris even stopped by for a while!

February 5, 2011

Chris and I went furniture shopping. I have a bit of a wait for the furniture, but this is the bed we got. Thanks to the furniture store for letting me steal photos from their website. :)

I cut a friend's hair on Monday, but the picture was blurry and I cannot use such a crappy photo and be happy. So yeah. Just know that's what it was of.

February 1, 2011: Courtney and I celebrated a victory of repeatedly making YAG by hanging the XRD on the wall. It feels good to point at the wall and demand respect. :)
