Went to Lowe's and got a free tree. But the guy wouldn't let me leave without all three types. So we are going to grow the next few Christmas trees in pots in the driveway. Because where else are you supposed to put trees when you are renting?

This morning, I got up early (Chris was already up) to go stand in the yard and watch the ISS fly over. I know this makes us total dorks, but it was still really cool. Its orbit happened to bring it directly over our house, so it was worth watching. It was hauling butt and bright as ever because of the sunrise in the distance, which was lighting it up like a Christmas tree. Obviously, I didn't take this picture with my cell phone. Actually, I just didn't take this picture.

Pardon the blurrier-than-usual picture. I sneezed at the same time that I took the picture. This is my new porch decor: a begonia, for those who don't recognize it. It's got unusual and tiny flowers on the underside of the leaves, but it doesn't need much sun and is supposed to grow rather nicely and should add some personality to our rental house. I also potted some basil in the back in a spot I can see from my kitchen.

Guess what day it is!?! Opening day! Okay, I know that opening day was last week, but today is the Braves home-opener. Oh yeah. And I am rocking my Chipper Jones shirt in honor of the occasion. But do you see the background in that picture? Am I at Turner Field? NO. I'm at work. And, btw, it's cold without sleeves. It's been cold all week. I had to turn my space heater on low just to keep it tolerable. But, I digress, I do plan on getting to a game soon. Woot.

Chris had a church softball game on Tuesday. So we went and froze our butts off and watched the guys play. They played hard, but they lost in the end. It was a very close and exciting game!

Spring has sprung. In honor of that, I am going to give you a quick tour of the more interesting things in my yard. Sadly, the cherry tree (Or redbud? Just realized I may be wrong.) in the front yard had already lost all of its blooms during one of the many lake wind advisories we've experienced of late, so I have no pictures. On that note, let's start the tour. My mother has NEVER been able to keep her clematis alive. In her defense, dad has dug it up rather violently and moved it, on several occasions. It died years ago. Here's mine. It seems to have even survived the rather awkward means of getting it in the car and the trellis falling over several times (I mentioned the wind, right?). Those little bush things on the side, well, I forget what they are. Anyway, this guy should be blooming soon.

Okay, so there are these plants in the back yard. I have had no idea what they are for the longest time. But they're big.

And then they sprouted waist-high stalks with rather large buds on them.

And now, well, now we know they're Irises! With blooms as big as my hand. It's crazy how big they are. Must be old. Remember, we've inherited whatever is in the yard. So it's been like one discovery after another. Like the single tulip in our front flower bed. Who knows why it's there, but it's cute. And apparently we have very fertile soil at the house.

Then there's the baby azalea by the back door. Really bad place for it. It doesn't have room to grow to its full potential. But they couldn't make room for it because of all the MONKEY GRASS they have. I can't stand monkey grass, btw.

Oh, and it turns out the dogwood is on our side of the fence, so I'm claiming it.

It has bloomed perfectly on time. Reminds me of all the Easter pictures in our family. Maybe I'll make Chris stand in front of it and smile for you guys.

Then there's this thing. One of those pots with random holes and lots of unidentified things in it. I've decided to replant it, because if we're responsible for the yard, the least they can do is let me make the ugly pot less ugly. We're trying not to majorly change anything. Trim the hedges, leave the plants. But this thing is ugly and I can see it from my kitchen window. There isn't much I can see from that window, and I'd like what I have to look at to be at least remotely attractive.

But my first question: what is this? Anyone know? This is what's growing in it. If it's a useful herb or something, I'll leave it. But i think it's a weed. It's got teensy purple blooms at the top, and that's about it. Anyone?

 

And that's all in the tour-du-anderson! Perhaps I'll work on that pot soon. We still have leaf piles that need to be dealt with.

We had a party Saturday. So you get three pictures. One, of the lovely new table in our dining room, our delicious spread, and you can just see the ginormous purple pompoms I was inspired to make by the domestic diva herself, Martha. I did not take this picture.

 

This shower was  for Jess, whose wedding is impending. So here's a picture of the bride, reading all our advice for her. It should be pointed out that only one of us was married (yep, that'd be me) and only for like a month. Perhaps she shouldn't take our advice.

And just as proof, here's a picture of Mary getting her hair cut on the porch. Apparently she decided it needed to be cut. Right then. So Erin did it, since she was the only one with the nerve. I do hair, but only Darren's, because he just wants it all removed.

And there might have been some glow sticks, but yeah. That's the gist of the party!
